The Hales Corners Fire department (HCFD) is a combination fire department consisting of full-time and part-time personnel working together to provide all hazards response to the Village of Hales Corners and surrounding communities. HCFD also provides fire prevention and fire inspection services to the Village of Hales Corners.
HCFD is active in the Milwaukee County Shared Services system which consists of cooperative training and standardized responses while operating under shared standard operating guidelines. Emergency Medical services are provided at the EMT-Advanced level under the medical control of Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The HCFD is working on transitioning to EMT-Paramedic level service in the near future.
The Hales Corners Fire Department responded to 1433 calls for service in 2022. This consisted of 1147 EMS calls and 286 Fire calls and was a 4% increase from 2021.

The HCFD station is staffed 24/7 - 365 days of the year. Minimum staffing is four personnel filling the roles of Officer, Driver/Operator, and 2 Firefighter/EMT positions.
Full time personnel work 24 hour shifts following the “California” schedule which consists of 24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty and then 96 hours off duty.
Part time personnel sign up for available shifts in either 12 hour or 24 hour increments. Minimum availability of 48 hours per month is expected. Number of hours worked per month varies based on an individual’s availability and the needs of the department during those times.

The Hales Corners Fire Department offers an apprenticeship program for individuals actively working to obtain their Firefighter 1 and EMT-Basic certifications.
To become part of our apprenticeship program, you need to be enrolled in either Firefighter 1, EMT-Basic, or both classes. You can also become part of the apprenticeship program if you hold a certification in either Firefighter 1 or EMT-Basic and you plan on obtaining the remaining certification. Our department does offer sponsorships to gain your Firefighter 1 certification however obtaining your EMT-Basic certification would be your responsibility.
The goal of our Apprenticeship Program is to provide training and support on your journey to achieving your Firefighter 1 and EMT-Basic certifications. Additional benefits include the ability to gain Fire/EMS experience, participate in trainings, and much more.
